ISO/IEC 17025 Measurement Uncertainty Budget
GUM bottom-up and Monte Carlo — generate a clause-ready uncertainty evaluation in minutes.
Why it matters
Clause 7.6 of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requires every lab to identify the contributions to uncertainty and to use a valid procedure for estimation. Assessors routinely flag missing or superficial budgets as a major nonconformity.
Two accepted methods
- GUM (bottom-up): list input quantities, assign standard uncertainties, combine via the law of propagation of uncertainty, expand by a coverage factor k.
- Monte Carlo: propagate a defined probability distribution through the measurement model to approximate the output distribution — useful for non-linear or correlated models.
How LabKitPro helps
The Uncertainty tool lets you build the measurement model, enter input sources and their distributions, and outputs a context-aware budget citing your accreditation body's framing.

Frequently asked
Do I need both methods? Pick the method that fits your model. GUM suffices for most linear cases; Monte Carlo helps with complex, correlated inputs.
